Home General Equipment Company: Manufacturers of Light Construction Equipment
Poduct Warranty Program

SCOPE

It is the intention of General Equipment Company to supply products to the marketplace that reflect the highest standards for materials, design and manufacture. Each original customer is entitled to receive coverage as described by the current limited warranty program for the product(s) purchased, regardless of where it (they) was (were) originally purchased. This program is intended to serve as a method to facilitate the proper communication procedures for the purpose of obtaining applicable coverage for a product.

WHAT THE LIMITED WARRANTY COVERS

General Equipment Company warrants that each new and unused product and/or accessory sold by it shall be:

  1. Free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of two (2) years from the original date of purchase.
  2. To warrant the direct labor expenses associated with defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the original date of purchase.

The warranty period for materials, workmanship and labor expenses shall run concurrent from the original date of purchase (invoice date). No exception to this policy will be made.

The obligation under this warranty program is limited to the current, flat labor rates allowed by it and the replacement and/or repair at its Owatonna, Minnesota, factory site, or at an authorized dealer designated by it, of such part or parts as shall appear upon inspection to have been defective in material and/or workmanship at the time sold. The part or parts claimed to be defective must be returned to the inspection point, with reasonable transportation charges prepaid. In the event that the part or parts are determined to be covered by the terms of the warranty program, General Equipment Company will reimburse the original purchaser for reasonable transportation charges. The amount designated, as reasonable transportation charges shall be the sole discretion of General Equipment Company. Any part or parts replaced under the terms of the warranty program will carry the applicable new product warranty. At the time of requesting warranty service, the original purchaser must present evidence of the purchase date of the part or parts submitted for warranty inspection.

ALLOWABLE FLAT LABOR RATES

General Equipment Company has developed an allowable flat rate reimbursement schedule for products of its manufacture. Maximum allowable time limits for each product line were established by many input factors including actual field experience. The designated labor rate is $60.00 US per hour. General Equipment Company will reimburse this rate for reasonable labor costs to perform warranty inspection and related repairs. Any exception to this schedule must be approved in writing by General Equipment Company BEFORE any work is performed.

The maximum allowable labor time limits are intended to apply for direct labor required during the warranty process. The program is not intended to apply to indirect costs such as overhead and pickup/delivery costs or be a source of profit. We expect our dealers to exercise good judgment when submitting labor cost reimbursements. We do not expect customers to pay for our mistakes or those made by our dealer organization.

WHAT THE LIMITED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER

The warranty does not cover depreciation or damage caused by: normal wear, accident, improper protection in storage, improper use, alterations, tampering, the environment, improper maintenance or incidental costs incurred by the original purchaser while the product is being examined and/or repaired under warranty.  In addition to the above limitations and/or exclusions, the following basic components are not covered by the limited warranty:

  1. Parts and/or components subject to wear with normal usage, but not specifically limited to the following:

    • High impact/wear related components, but not limited to: V-belts, flails, flail rods and flail drums.
    • High abrasion/wear related components including, but not limited to: augers, auger flighting, boring heads, multi-accessory attachments, tungsten carbide inserts and flexible ducts.
    • Engine throttle control cable assemblies and related control devices.
    • Centrifugal clutch components including, but not limited to: shoes, springs, drum and rotor assembly.

  2. Parts and labor required for scheduled and general maintenance services as defined in the applicable operator’s manual.

  3. Engines, motors, controls and other accessories sold with, attached to, or operated with a product sold by General Equipment Company and warranted separately by the applicable Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) per its respective program.

  4. The repair, service and/or installation of any electric component or related replacement part for use with General light construction products must be accomplished by a certified, licensed electrician to receive coverage consideration under the applicable warranty program. Improper repair, service and/or installation can result in property damage and/or personal injury. To receive warranty consideration, supporting documentation that is signed by a certified, licensed electrician must be submitted at the time coverage is requested.

  5. Contact the factory for a copy of the limited warranty or an explanation of its terms and conditions. If a dealer feels that an original purchaser is entitled to an adjustment after the stated warranty coverage time period has expired, contact the Customer Service Department at 800-533-0524, stating the reasons why a further adjustment should be made. Any reasonable request will be considered. No adjustment should be offered or given to an original purchaser after the stated warranty coverage time period has expired until authorization from the factory has been made in writing.

WARRANTY PROCEDURE

  1. Determine the product or component in question is within the stated warranty coverage time period. Check your records or the original purchase invoice if you were not the original selling dealer. General Equipment Company will honor the claim the same if you were or were not the original selling dealer.

  2. For all warranty returns contact the Customer Service Department at 800.533.0524 or +507.451.5510 to determine if the product qualifies for warranty service under the terms of the warranty program. A Return Goods Authorization (RGA) number will be assigned to the claim for return purposes and consideration. Failure must be the result of a defect, not misuse and/or damage. A return or the issuance of an RGA does not assume warranty coverage. All charges applied to a warranty claim or returned part must reference an RGA number.

  3. Label the part(s) you are returning for warranty claim consideration with the assigned RGA number.

  4. Return the part(s) prepaid to the factory or to a location designated by the Customer Service Department.

  5. Failure to notify the Customer Service Department and receive an RGA number prior to repairs may result in denial of the claim.

  6. The repair, service and/or installation of any electric component or related replacement part for use with all General® light construction products must be accomplished by a certified, licensed electrician to receive coverage consideration under the applicable product warranty program.  Improper repair, service and/or installation can result in property damage and/or personal injury. To receive warranty consideration, supporting documentation that is signed by a certified, licensed electrician must be submitted at the time coverage is requested.
